Phoenix, Ariz. plans new bike park [jordan fusion]

After creating a stir this past winter over the creation of a skateboard-only plaza in the Phoenix, Ariz. area, Jason Ryan of of The Bike Blade and Board Coalition announced impending plans by the city of Phoenix, Ariz. for a concrete public bike park.

"The bike park will be concrete and will be located at 67th Avenue and Encanto Blvd at Desert West Park, just across the parking lot from Arizona's first public concrete skatepark," said Ryan in a statement yesterday.

Ryan, who organized The Great DC Shoe Burn in December to protest the banning of bikes from a skate plaza being constructed in the Phoenix, Ariz. area by the Rob Dyrdek Foundation, believes that the the grassroots protests he organized helped to rekindle an interest in getting BMX riders equitable treatment in Phoenix skateparks.

"In addition to holding The Great DC Shoe Burn, The 3BC also attended a Phoenix Parks and Recreation Board meeting, a Phoenix City Council meeting,The bag should feature the nike shox shoes and swoosh in solid black with the SB letters beneath. Make sure this lettering is quality and not cheaply painted on or applied and met with Phoenix City Councilman Nowakowski," Ryan added.

The result of Ryan's efforts is the equitable treatment he was aiming for. After meeting with Phoenix Parks and Recreation officials, Ryan was able to recommend a skatepark designer that is unbiased against BMX riders.

"We recommended that the city use Wally Hollyday's skatepark design and build company to both design and build the new bikepark, due to their experience in designing and building amazing concrete skateparks with no bias against bike riders, unlike most U.S. skatepark designers and builders," said Ryan.

"The skatepark is generally planned to contain mostly street elements,You will also never forget the The Barricade Transformers nike shoes wholesale which the heel has the words Emergency Response framing 911 but community input meetings will be held in which Phoenix BMX riders can give their input on what they'd like to see in the new bike park," Ryan added.

In November of 2010, Ryan made headlines with the planning of The Great DC Shoe Burn to protest the construction of Phoenix's fifth skatepark, a skate plaza funded by the Rob Dyrdek Foundation. The plaza, under contract by the City of Phoenix, was, according to Ryan, "Being funded with a $50,000 donation from the Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza Foundation." "The Bike, Blade and Board Coalition has confirmed that the contract between the foundation and the City of Phoenix states that the city must ban kids who ride bikes from the new skatepark when it opens," he added.

The shoe burn protest was attended by approximately 75 BMX riders, who burned their DC shoes and clothing in protest of the new park's exclusion of BMX riders. Adio Footwear donated new shoes to riders that burned their shoes, and a man in a Santa Claus suit handed out the new shoes.
